Abstract

Aurora is a group of research-intensive universities with a shared mission to "match academic excellence with societal relevance". Equipping graduates with not only the expertise, but also the skills and mindsets to contribute to society is the core of its EU-funded European University programme.

In this session, Kai Hockerts will first zoom in on the Aurora Competence Framework designed to help students to develop their skills, mind-sets and attitudes to act as social entrepreneurs and innovators. He will explain how the Aurora Competence Framework will serve as a practical tool to measure students’ progress, strengthening the evidence base of university education.

Then Kees Kouwenaar will show how the Aurora Competence Framework builds on the MasterMind Europe project to improve Master's Admission for a diverse international classroom. The Mastermind toolkit helps academics to explain to students and colleagues what they see as important as results of their education - in addition to subject-related knowledge and skills.

Anne-May Janssen will put the Aurora Competence Framework in the broader context of the Aurora European University programme - which is in fact the way in which the Aurora universities put their shared vision into practice: for education, for institutional practice and for research and research appliacation.
